Our goal for this Cupcake Wars project was to raise awareness for the overflowing landfills and junk yard pollutants. To show this, we used old pots, pans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, and aluminum. All of these materials can be recycled and reused and it would benefit the well-being of our earth and the air we breathe. To add emphasis to our junk yard theme, we created cupcakes that looked "dirty" and they had candy cockroaches on top of them. The cupcakes were vanilla and we frosted them with brown food-colored icing. After they were frosted, we rolled the top of the cupcake around in crushed Oreo and Vanilla Wafer cookie crumbs. We created the cockroaches out of pitted dates and made the wings out of molded carmel cubes. Next, we cut M&M's in half to act as the cockroach's heads. Finally, we used the icing tops to create antennas going along the cockroaches back. With this clever idea, and the astonishing facts glued to our cupcake display, we hope to raise awareness and keep our earth clean.
